CIVICS 101; Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle

In physics there's a theory called "the observer effect" that basically says that just the very act of observing a situation or subject changes that phenomenon being observed.

Philosophers can get pretty deep with this idea empirically it's impossible to really know anything absolutely because we only know what we see and we can never see anything in it's natural state.

It's more likely that you've experienced something along the lines of taking your car to a mechanic and suddenly it stops making the noise or having the problem that you brought it to the mechanic for!

The reason we bring this up is because this principle applies to politics too. If you call, text, email, write or follow our public officials on social media- they'll know that you're paying attention. You don't have to get into arguments or be hostile. Single word statements and questions are powerful.

If you attend meetings or "coffees" or other events where our public officials are appearing, they behave differently than they would when fewer people show up- especially when it's only their own supporters who usually attend.

Even if you can't be at every meeting every week/month/quarter, try making a point of attending at least some. If you already do, try making it to more and invite some friends.

Any meetings will do. City Council, County Supervisors, School Board, Library Board, Extension Office, you name it. Yes, this includes county party committee meetings.

Your presence REALLY makes a difference JUST BY BEING THERE. Even if you don't ask any questions or make any statement. Showing up is a statement.

How Can We Better Serve You?

Quick note from your CCD Facebook page manager & Webmaster

It seems like there's been a explosion of liberal and progressive groups and pages here on Facebook. Because of that, I'm wondering if this page should focus on communication and organization of our local party more than just echoing our opinions since most of us can "vent" in other groups anyway. What do YOU think? Please send us your ideas (or start some discussion with a comment). What do you want/need from our local party's Facebook page? How can we serve Democrats in the area better.

SEEKING NEW COUNTY CHAIR

Beth Ann Vogt & Ken Kahl are seeking to back out of their co-chairships. They'll keep coordinating the Crawford County chapter of Drinking Liberally, but are hoping other Dems in the area would be willing to pick up the slack. Please let one of them know if you'd be interested. Essentially you'd just need to be a contact person for State party and for candidates. Coordinate/preside over caucus meetings. Please speak with one of our current co-chairs for details. Thank you for your interest.

Come Join the Parade!

Dear Crawford County Democrats,
This Saturday, May 3, is the Cinco De Mayo celebration in Denison. It begins with a parade at 1pm and other events throughout the day and evening (see attached flyer). As the Crawford County Democrats, this is an opportunity to meet with new friends and supporters.
We will be decorating a vehicle with Democratic Party signs, as well as campaign signs for local and statewide candidates, and walking in the parade. We will gather by the Post Office at 12:30pmPlease let me know if you or some Democratic friends would walk in the parade, throw some candy, and wave to the crowd.
We will also have a tent/table that will be decorated and have information regarding voter registration. Please let me know if you are willing to be a friendly face at our table to welcome people who might be interested in our Party. Even 30 minutes would be appreciated. We will have a table from 1pm to 6pm.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Many thanks,
Paul

2013 CRAWFORD COUNTY FAIR BOOTH

A table full of Crawford County Democrats ate some hearty food and had some laughs at Homer's in Vail tonight (Thursday July 11).  Bruce Braley campaign staffer John Hall was present, discussed the Republican field of Senate candidates, and left us Braley materials for the fair booth.

Denise Meeves prepared a Crawford County Fair Work Schedule.  As you can see, we need volunteers at several times.  Call me, Larry Peterson 269-0919, or Denise at  269-8909 to add your name to the schedule.  Please do so before Sunday July 21.
Failure to comply will result in spending eternity with a bunch of Republicans -- in control of our government....
